Why Images Download as WebP and How to Convert WebP to PDF
You save an image from a website, try to attach it to a form or open it in an older program, and it fails. The file ends in .webp. This is increasingly common, and it is easy to fix.
Why are images saved as WebP?
WebP is an image format created by Google to make websites load faster. For the same visual quality, WebP files are usually smaller than JPG or PNG. Many websites therefore deliver their images as WebP to browsers that support it, which today means nearly all of them. When you right-click and save, you get the file the website actually sent: a WebP.
Where WebP causes problems
- Some upload forms only accept JPG, PNG or PDF.
- Older photo editors and office programs may not open WebP.
- Some printers and print shops do not accept it.
Convert WebP to PDF
- Open PDF ↔ WebP and select the WebP → PDF tab.
- Add one or more WebP images.
- Arrange the order, choose a page size and margin.
- Click Create PDF.
Each image becomes one page. Because the PDF format does not support WebP directly, the images are converted to high-quality JPG inside the PDF. Transparent areas become white.
If you have a mix of WebP, JPG and PNG images, use Image to PDF, which accepts all of them at once.
Need a JPG instead of a PDF?
A simple route: convert the WebP image to PDF as above, then turn that PDF into a JPG with PDF to Image. On many computers you can also open the WebP image in a browser or a modern photo app and choose "Save as" or "Export" to JPG.
The other direction: PDF to WebP
WebP is a great choice when you want to show PDF pages on a website: a menu, a brochure or a catalogue. Use the PDF → WebP tab, choose 150 DPI and Medium quality, and you get light images that load fast.
Is WebP better than JPG?
For websites, generally yes: smaller files at similar quality, plus support for transparency. For sharing with other people, printing or uploading to forms, JPG and PDF remain the safest choices because every device and program accepts them.
