How to Share PDF Pages on Instagram, WhatsApp and Social Media
You have a flyer, a menu, a price list or a presentation as a PDF, and you want to post it. Most social platforms do not accept PDF files in posts or stories, so the pages need to become images first. Getting the size and format right keeps text readable after the platform compresses your images.
Convert PDF pages to images
- Open PDF to Image and choose your PDF.
- Select JPG, 150 DPI and High quality. For pages that are mostly text or graphics, PNG keeps edges sharper.
- Click Convert, then download the pages you need, or all of them as a ZIP.
If you only need one or two pages of a long document, extract them first with Split PDF.
Instagram displays feed images at a width of about 1080 pixels. A4 pages converted at 150 DPI are about 1240 pixels wide, which is a good fit. Instagram supports portrait images up to a 4:5 ratio in the feed, while an A4 page is taller than that, so the top and bottom may be cropped in the preview. To avoid surprises, design pages for social media in a 4:5 or square format from the start, or add the page to a 4:5 canvas in a photo editor.
For multi-page documents, post the pages as a carousel (several images in one post).
WhatsApp compresses photos sent normally, which can blur small text. Two options:
- Send the images as a document instead of a photo; WhatsApp then keeps the original quality.
- Or send the PDF itself as a document. Most phones open PDFs directly.
For WhatsApp Status, a portrait image converted at 150 DPI works well.
Facebook and LinkedIn
Facebook accepts JPG and PNG images; post multiple pages as an album. LinkedIn lets you upload documents, including PDFs, as a document post that people can flip through, so you may not need to convert at all there.
Keep text readable
- Avoid very small text: on a phone, an A4 page is shown much smaller than on paper.
- Use High quality and PNG for text-heavy pages, since platforms compress uploads again.
- Check the result on your own phone before posting.
Which format?
JPG is the safest choice for social platforms. PNG gives sharper text but larger files. WebP is great for websites but not always accepted by apps. See our JPG vs PNG vs WebP comparison.
Summary
Convert PDF pages to JPG or PNG at 150 DPI, use carousels for multi-page documents, send as "document" on WhatsApp to avoid compression, and design for 4:5 when creating content specifically for Instagram.
